Guatemala

Ever wanted to visit a country bursting with color, adventure, and warmth?

Guatemala is a vibrant country filled with breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and some of the kindest people you’ll ever meet. We had the opportunity to visit Guatemala and experience this firsthand and see what makes the country so special.

From witnessing erupting volcanoes and roasting marshmallows over volcanic ash at Pacaya volcano to hiking for unforgettable sunrises and sunsets above the clouds, every moment was filled with adventure, wonder, and discovery.

Everyone who visits Guatemala seems to say there is something special about this country—and after experiencing it ourselves, we can confidently agree with this sentiment.

Not only is there adventure in Guatemala, but the food options are varied and incredible shopping can be found around the city. There are many businesses that give back to the local community with handmade wares and handicrafts that you could decorate your entire home.

Anyone looking to visit Guatemala should not miss Antigua and Lake Atitlán.

Having spent a week in Antigua and one week at Lake Atitlán allowed for more slow travel and meeting other travelers and locals.

Antigua is a jewel as it is known as the UNESCO world heritage city which features cobblestone streets and eye catching, colorful architecture surrounded by breathtaking volcano views.

If you have more time or want to create a full itinerary there are other places to visit such as Tikal and Flores, Semuc Champey and the Pacific coast (El Paredón) where you will find the beach.

Artists fill the streets of Lake Atitlán and supporting local art has to be one of our favorite hobbies, so make sure you enter the local shops to see all the different creations. Having live conversations with local artists will teach you so much about their craft and you can learn how hard they work to create these special pieces. ( as seen above this is the piece taken home as a memento from Guatemala).
