Why I ‘became’ a solo female traveler
You may be asking yourself the question of ‘why and how, to become a solo traveler? Well, there is no guide on becoming a solo traveler, you just do it. The why of it is only for you to know.
The why of becoming a solo traveler is easy. Why not see the world when you want without any interruptions, right? Ladies like myself who travel solo understand this when they stopped waiting for people to say yes to travel and created their own trips and booked their first solo excursion.
Here I am five years into launching a solo female travel business, for other like minded adventure travelers, but still traveling solo because I was sick of waiting. I was sick of waiting for the friend to have the money, to figure it out and I took the first trip and haven’t looked back and this is why you should too.
Many people ask me if I am afraid to travel alone? I would be lying if I didn’t say there are times when I get a bit nervous before a trip. The reality is I am a woman who is navigating the world alone. So, of course it’s scary, but if I don’t book the flight and hop the plane who else will?
Now is the time to start living for you and stop caring what anyone else thinks. Always take precautions in your home place and do the same when you are abroad, but be even more aware of your surroundings, as it’s not your home country.
Case in point I will be leaving on a trip soon and I will be renting a vehicle in a foreign country that I have never been to. Driving abroad isn’t new to me, seeing as I lived in Germany when I lived abroad and did not speak the language, so I may be going out on a limb when I say, take the risks, book the flight and make the plans, just be extra careful when doing so.

I decided to go out on a limb, or on a waterway in Charleston instead of doing some solo paddling and met new friends and even had a fabulous tour guide, who taught us all about the history of the area. I knew if I went alone, like I seemingly do often I wouldn’t have had such a time.
As you an see here I am kayaking in Schem Creek outside Charleston, South Carolina and as much as I was solo I was never alone. I had not kayaked in years, but constantly being on the water doing stand up paddling I knew that a kayak wasn’t that much different. I joined a local adventure outfitter to guide the way, instead of always being the solo adventurer figuring the way and paid someone else to do it. Turns out I had the best time and made a new friend on the water.
Something I am still learning to accept is trusting that even in the hardest times, even when solo you are exactly where you are meant to be, even when you can’t see through the reeds.
So, if you are thinking about solo travel, take the leap, you never know what will be waiting for you on the other side. It could be a 20 hour flight with two stopovers to head to a new country, because you fly on points. Stay tuned to where this solo female traveler is off to next.
The greatest thing about travel is you meet some amazing souls, some who stay in touch for a lifetime and others who may only be your adventure buddy for the day.
