Travel on the cheap and earn points; here’s how

Are you wondering how I keep traveling to new places? Well, maybe you are new to this website and want to learn. I am here to tell you first hand that you don’t have to make a ton of money or be rich to travel. Budgeting is key and paying your bills off monthly is even more important. How do I do it?

I pay all my bills ( yet some don’t allow me to using a credit card) with credit cards. Yes, I know for many of you that sounds absolutely insane, but I promise you it can be done.

Paying using credit cards works well to earn free or super discounted hotels and flights.

For example with 60,000 points + $197 x 2 I booked two round trip tickets to Greece at the end of August. It’s factual information even though it sounds unreal and if you want to learn I suggest you keep subscribing to my emails and pay attention.

Sit back in that airplane seat, pay attention and click on this link to grab your first set of points.  The link is for the CSP which stands for Chase sapphire preferred (credit card).

One thing you must be know is about the 5/24 rule with any chase branded (bank) credit cards is you must  meet the 5/24 rule. The 5/24 rule means you have NOT opened more than five Chase credit cards in the last 5 years.

Yes, believe it or not, those of us who travel hack  open various cards in a year, so we must pay attention. This is where I suggest you start your travel hacking journey. Be mindful you also must meet your minimum spend (MS) which means you must spend the amount within the three months from opening the credit card given in the offer letter. Therefore for the CSP you, “Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening — that’s $750 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®.”

So, you can do one of two things, take the $750 (earned from the MS) and run or you can use it like I have to redeem travel, be it flights or hotels. Flights are some of the best redemptions, but I also understand if you need the cash then you need the cash.

Below (photo) you will find how I spent my $800.00 cash from my Citi card. I bought a flight on Alaska Airlines a month before my trip and spent $600, then decided I didn’t want to use the points for future travel and cashed in $600 of the $800 I earned from the MS from signing up for the Citibank card.

Stay tuned for all the redemptions made in 2022 on points and what I have coming up for 2023. Hope you learned something from this article and please share this link with a friend or family member.

If you do click my links or share I am grateful.  Full disclosure I receive a small referral of points for you learning the travel hacking game too. You can then refer friends and family for points too after signing up! One important note is having a good credit  score is essential when applying for credit cards, typically 650+. Happy travel hacking!
