Tanzania treasures
Are you wanting to go to Tanzania and unsure if you should book the ticket and jump on the adventure of a lifetime? If this is you I was you at one point and thinking gosh, the flight is so long and the ticket to get to Africa is a bit costly. Since I have gone to Africa, life has not been the same. They say Africa takes a piece of your heart but the reality is you leave a piece of your heart in Africa. I have been missing it ever since and my ‘rafiki,’= friends in Swahili.
The people and guides of Africa, love what they do and they work hard for every dollar they earn. Why mention this? Well, Africa traditionally has a ton of culture and history, but the wages are sub par with the rest of the working world. Every dollar given to a guide or local is beyond appreciated. Perfect example, was when I gave the guy cracking coconuts open, a few US dollars for his manual labor, he smiled the biggest smile and his day was made. From there on out, he smiled at me and greeted me kindly, wanting to crack open a coconut. Africans are just naturally happy. They welcome you and want you to be part of their family, even if you aren’t actual family.

What we take for granted in America, others don’t. The minutia of hot running water, good connectivity and internet, where you don’t have to hold your phone above your head, these things, my friends, are bigger than the real picture that we see.
One thing that sits with me though is my friend George who is native to Arusha town. He was with his lovely partner Paz and he said sit down, put your phone down, this is where we talk to people. We sat around the fire and got to know each other, to later learn they also run a tour business and are doing great things with the locals, focusing on building their own dreams. This was after learning that Paz came to Africa from Spain to volunteer, beautiful right? The people we meet leave an impression on us, even for a moment and this is what travel is all about.
This was where a friendship blossomed while sitting around the fire at Rivertrees Resort. That is how our partnership was born and the new adventure and next trip to Tanzania came to. We hope you join us on the next African safari to Tanzania + Zanzibar and see so many wonders of the world.
I relish in the fact you can go off grid a bit when going on holiday and especially in a special place like Africa. Meeting locals, donating books and school supplies to local school children, putting smiles on so many faces is what its all about. One of the most amazing memories was when the large giant and graceful elephants cross your path in the Serengeti. This my friends is what adventure is all about. Those unique experiences that take you off grid, off the beaten path and out of your comfort zone. This my friends is what drives me to build this little travel business.
We welcome you to join on the next adventure September 1-12, 2025.
Your African story and safari awaits and your heart will thank you and you may also leave a little bit of your heart in Africa too. Home is where the heart is after all.
