Knoxville a city of hidden art and treasures
Have you wanted to visit the southern cities of America, but don’t know where to start? Well I have a few tips and tricks for you when visiting cities in a state like Tennessee. For starters, do your research. Why do I say this?
For the simple fact that many of the southern cities have prices that are quite different from the next. These past few months I have had the opportunity to visit Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tennessee and all three cities have quite the draw, but significantly vary in regard to affordability.
For starters, Nashville, is a city that is on fire right now. Houses are being snatched up in 24-72 hours, sight unseen. Yes, you read that right. Forget contingencies and home inspections, Nashville is hot and the city itself has the prices to match the housing market. With that said Nashville is an incredible city, with friendly people, great restaurants, amazing music and always something to do in regards to entertainment.
Next up you will find Chatanooga on the list, which is also a friendly city, but has more outdoorsy entertainment if that is what you are looking for. There are quite a few places to go for food as well, but it may not match to the scene found in Nashville.
Lastly, you can find the Knox in Knoxville by exploring this great city. When I arrived there I used my points to stay at a hotel 15 minutes outside the city limits, which was perfect as the traffic is minimal and the drive is an easy hop, skip and jump from the hotel I stayed in right next to the freeway. The Main Street in downtown Knoxville is a great walkable street and has some great shops and various Restaurants. There is even a rooftop bar atop one of the hotels there, that you can get grab a drink or a bite to eat. Not to mention there is an incredible pizza place, called A Dopo Sourdough pizza on the outer city limits. I normally would never touch pizza made from wheat flour (gluten free over here), but I took a chance with this amazing sourdough pizza joint.
To my surprise it was not only delicious, but I would highly recommend it. (now if you have celiac disease I definitely do not recommend getting this pizza, even if the dough is fermented, like that of sourdough.)
Knoxville didn’t disappoint, from the cities murals, to the Tennessee concert hall to the friendly staff at the visitors center, its an affordable city and very walkable. One place that I got lucky with was attending a concert that I had no plans of attending. Melissa Etheridge had a rescheduled event that was postponed from the pandemic and I happened to be there the night the concert was happening. I met a lady who had an unused ticket and it was going to go to waste, so I paid her a very dismal amount of money and was able to attend a concert I wouldn’t have otherwise gone to.
I was pleasantly surprised how fantastic she was in concert and it changed my opinion on her as an artist. What a treat to see this historic theater too. I believe they do tours, so if you ever visit Knoxville I highly recommend visiting the theater, even if you are not able to attend a concert.
Therefore, I highly recommend you take that trip and head south to discover all Tennessee has to offer. More on this to come as my explorations continue around the United Stat
